This historic photo captured in May of 1953 shows the daring rescue of a trucker who crashed off of the Pitt River Bridge near Redding, California.

The amateur photographer who captured this stunning scene with a Kodak Brownie camera, Virginia Schau, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the photo in 1954.
