Erratic motorist declares he is “the chosen one” before running into oncoming tractor trailer

Published:

A man is dead after driving and acting erratically before running into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer in Virginia on Friday.

The incident happened on April 29th just before 1:30 a.m. in Richmond, Virginia.

According to ABC 8 News, a U-haul van was traveling along Interstate 95 north when it took the exit to Interstate 64 eastbound. The van then suddenly did a U-turn in the exit lane and continued north in the southbound lanes of I-95. The U-haul van continued into oncoming traffic and sideswiped multiple vehicles.

The U-haul van eventually struck a Chevy Avalanche towing a small trailer near the Chamberlayne Avenue exit and overturned, ejecting the van driver. The U-haul van driver then got up, stated that he was “the chosen one,” climbed over a guardrail, and ran into the center northbound lane. An oncoming trucker was then unable to avoid striking the man.

The U-haul van driver was killed in the incident. He has not yet been identified.  No other injuries were reported. The incident is still under investigation, but investigators believe that the incident may have been a suicide.
