There are many U.S. trucking companies that hire convicted felons.

Each carrier has their own set of rules but many will consider hiring felons 5, 7, or 10 years after release, while others evaluate on a case-by-case basis.

Obtaining A CDL As A Felon

A felony conviction for the following offenses will prevent a person from receiving a CDL at the federal level, which is required to drive between states or across country:

  • Vehicular manslaughter
  • Trafficking or distribution of controlled substances, materials, or weapons

Other felonies that could prevent someone from obtaining a federal CDL are:

  • Bribery
  • Extortion
  • Arson
  • Treason
  • Kidnapping
  • Assault with intent to murder
