More politicians question FMCSA's methodology.

The FMCSA has announced guidance on the 30-minute rest break for short haul drivers.

A team driver has applied for an exemption from HOS.

The Oregon Trucking Association (OTA) has applied for an exemption from the 30-minute rest break.

"The arbitrary requirements of when a drivers must take the breaks leave no room in a driver's work day to contend with unpredictable factors such as bead weather or heavy traffic," OOIDA states.

A whistleblower claims this New Jersey carrier forced its drivers to falsify logs and violate HOS regulations.

"The commercial trucking industry is a pillar of the US economy and small, medium and large businesses across America depend on the on-time, cost-efficient and safe transport of finished products and raw materials each day. It is imperative that the rules governing the trucking industry be backed by factual, statistically-valid and data-driven studies that are fully completed and analyzed before proposed rules come into effect," the letter concludes.

The FMCSA has adjusted the 30-minute rest break provision.

"The ruling recognizes the sensible data-driven approach that was taken in crafting this important regulation to increase safety and reduce driver fatigue – a leading factor in truck crashes."

"We grant ATA’s petition in part and vacate the rule insofar as it subjects short-haul drivers to the 30-minute off-duty break requirement. In all other respects, the petitions of both ATA and Public Citizen are ...Denied."

Changes have been made to the language regarding what constitutes as a break.
